BGL – Treasure Hunt & Team Building at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

BGL Group’s Team-Building Adventure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Introduction: A Day of Teamwork and Discovery

BGL Group, a financial services company specialising in vehicle and home insurance, needed a unique team-building event for their HR Department. This department was undergoing significant changes to its values and objectives. They required an event that fostered communication and reinforced company values.

The Challenge: Energising 120 People

The company tasked Wildfire Agency with creating two engaging and energetic activities for approximately 120 participants at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. These activities needed to complement the pre-arranged Animal Experiences.

Wildfire’s Solution: A Multifaceted Approach

Wildfire Agency delivered a fully managed event. This included facilitating the day’s activities, designing unique sessions, and providing comprehensive logistical support.

1. Tablet Treasure Hunt: Exploring the Park and Company Values

Wildfire designed a bespoke Tablet Treasure Hunt. Specifically, they aligned the hunt with the park’s animals and BGL’s key questions. Teams had two hours to navigate the park, using image recognition to complete various tasks. These tasks included general knowledge, animal-related questions, BGL-specific questions, and video and picture challenges. Afterward, Wildfire scored and tallied all tasks to determine the winning team. Finally, they compiled all images and videos into a montage for BGL.

2. Masterpiece Challenge: Collaborative Creativity

Next, Wildfire introduced the Masterpiece Challenge. This activity encouraged teamwork and creative thinking. First, during pre-event planning, Wildfire created a bespoke image featuring BGL’s logos and values. Then, during the event, five teams each worked on two canvases. These canvases were not adjacent, which forced teams to collaborate. To achieve this, teams communicated to match lines, designs, and colours. The activity challenged memory and teamwork, as groups had a limited time to view the master image. At the end, all 40 canvases formed the complete image, which BGL later displayed in their offices.

3. Animal Experience Feedback Session: Reflecting on Values

Throughout the day, participants enjoyed four Animal Experience sessions: Tigers, Painted Dogs, Lions, and Baboons. To enhance these experiences, Wildfire created a feedback activity. This encouraged participants to reflect on their workplace values and behaviours. Wildfire staff led the sessions, facilitating discussions on animal behaviours and their parallels to BGL’s values. Before the event, Wildfire designed four animal panels. During the activity, participants discussed which BGL values matched the animal behaviours. As a result, this generated insightful discussions.

The Outcome: A Resounding Success

“The D&D team greatly appreciated the event. It was a smooth and enjoyable day. We found the planning and execution to be excellent. The entire team at Wildfire was a pleasure to work with.
